  Receiving ".docx" Files
 
    Documents and spreadsheets saved in the new Office 2007 format (.docx and .xlsx) will not open in versions of Office 2003. This inconvenience is occurring more and more frequently with collaborative projects as Instructional Designers and SME's (Subject Matter Experts) upgrade their versions of Office.

    And, of course, you can always make sure to request documents are saved in the .doc format early in the development process.
